Holiday: Winter Solstice

The shortest day of the year or the longest night. However you embrace Winter Solstice, the best way to celebrate it is with a glass of Winter Solstice Sangria.

Winter Solstice Sangria

1/4 cup superfine sugar
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 cup sliced oranges
1 cup sliced lemons
6 dashes orange bitters
1 bottle white wine such as Riesling
1/2 cup orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Gran Marnier
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup white rum
glass: poco grande or large wine glass
garnish: strawberry, with a cut up middle so it can perch on edge of glass

In a large punch bowl or pitcher, stir together sugar, fruit, and bitters. Let sit for 20 minutes. Add wine and liqueurs, then serve.
