More than ever before, women hold the power when it comes to booze—on both sides of the bar. Women make anywhere from sixty-five to seventy percent of all at-home alcohol purchases, and they’re driving up the numbers—and changing the preferences—at restaurants and bars.
“There’s a reason why whiskey has moved past vodka as the number one spirit in America, and it’s not because men just started drinking a lot more of it,” says Ann Tuennerman, founder of Tales of the Cocktail.
Women are tastemakers with excellent taste. If that’s something you’d like to toast to, we suggest this Scotch version of the Old Fashioned.
