TSA lines got you frustrated? Packing and over-packing presents giving you a headache? Stuck in traffic as you try to head out of the city and into the woods to Grandmother’s House?
We have the perfect cure. While we don’t recommend placing this on your dashboard next to your GPS, we do recommend that after you arrive at your destination to shake up this deliciously effervescent cocktail.
Cherries on the Dashboard
Recipe by Daniel “Gray” Thomas, Sailor Jerry Spice Rum brand ambassador
1-¼ oz. Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
½ oz. Ancho Reyes chile liqueur
½ oz. black cherry shrub*
3 dashes of cherry bitters**
2 large sage leaves
2 to 3 oz. Champagne
glass: champagne flute
garnish: fresh sage and black cherry
Shake all ingredients except the Champagne vigorously over ice. Double strain into a Champagne flute and top with Champagne. Garnish with a fresh sage leaf wrapped around a black cherry.
* A shrub is a vinegar, fruit and sugar mixture. You can make your own black cherry shrub (just do a Google search for dozens of recipes like this one from Reclaiming Provincial), or you can buy a shrub from a company like Sweet Caroline’s Jams.
