Who is Jes Baker?
Internationally recognized blogger (The Militant Baker) and author of the brand-new book Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls, Jes Baker is a positive, progressive, and magnificently irreverent force to be reckoned with in the realm of self-love advocacy and mental health. When she stood up to retailer Abercrombie & Fitch’s offensive sizing policies, her tone and message struck a chord and she decided to spread her message even further: those who tell fat girls they can’t are dead wrong.
This book isn’t just for fat girls, though. In Jes’s own words:
You might be wondering if this book is for you, and I want to save you time, so lemme break it down for ya…if you are a person with a body who is tired of being shamed and told to shape up, slim down, camouflage, alter against your will, or make apologies for your body… THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.
Jes has proposed a challenge to women everywhere to post their photos on social media with the hashtag #FatGirlsCan to promote body positivity. Hundreds of participants’ photos are already posted to her website.
To participate in the #FatGirlsCan challenge:
- Think of something that someone said you couldn’t do because of your body.
- Take a photo of you DOING that thing that someone said you couldn’t.
- Tag that photo on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr with the hashtag #FatGirlsCan.
- Celebrate your awesomeness.
- Repeat #4 as many times as you like.
