Bay Area Book Fest: Julia Serano – Trans Voices in Literature

Excluded author Julia SeranoThe Bay Area Book Festival presents “Trans Voices in Literature,” a panel discussion featuring Seal Press author Julia Serano (Excluded: Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive and Whipping Girl:A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity) and Zander Keig (Manning Up: Transsexual Men on Finding Brotherhood, Family & Themselves), moderated by Willy Wilkinson (Born on the Edge of Race and Gender: A Voice For Cultural Competency).

Trans authors illuminate the profoundly liberating experience of living an authentic life, challenging readers to question traditional notions of gender and vocalizing the impact of all-too-pervasive discrimination. Join this diverse panel of trans authors as they discuss how their work addresses the interplay between trans experience and race, culture, family, politics and community membership.

The Bay Area Book Festival will fill downtown Berkeley, California all weekend June 6-7, 2015 with a literary extravaganza that offers pleasure to anyone who has ever loved a book.The two-day, free festival will welcome 300 local, national and international authors in 145 keynotes, interviews, panels and performances on indoor and outdoor stages throughout a 10-block radius of downtown Berkeley.
